Find your dog if they go missing

If you're looking for peace of mind when you're out and about with your dog, then a Pet Tracker could be just what you need, so that you are always able to see your dog's live location.

It's ideal if you want the extra security and reassurance of knowing where your dog is at any time, just in case they wander too far away on a walk or manage to escape from home.

Whether your pooch is an escape artist, prone to dashing off to follow an irresistible scent, or a free spirit who loves exploring, this is an effective solution to help all us pet-parents protect our beloved four-legged friends.

How does it work?

A GPS Pet Tracker is a small device that attaches to your pet's collar. It receives signals from GPS satellites to pinpoint your pet's location and then uses a cellular connection (like your phone's network) to transmit that location data to an app on your smartphone.

You can view your pet's location in real-time on a map within the app. Many also record activity and weight and offer health and fitness insights for your pet.

There are various options on the market to choose from, but we really like the PitPat Dog GPS Tracker - it's the one we use to keep our own dog safe.

Our Favourite: PitPat GPS Tracker

We like the PitPat Dog GPS Tracker because of these great features:

  • No subscription fee. Unlike many of the alternatives, there's no on-going subscription, so you can find your dog whenever and as often as you want to, for as long as you use your tracker, without ever paying a penny more.
  • No-quibble 42-day FREE returns.
  • Trustscore: 4.4/5, based on 2700+ reviews.
  • PitPat works with both Apple and Android phones.
  • It's strong - it's made from super-tough injection-moulded plastic and built for a lifetime on the collar of whatever the most adventurous dog can throw at it. Whether that's scrambling through bushes or diving in the sea.
  • It's small and lightweight - less than 60mm (2.4") long and weighs just 30g (1.1oz) - so your dog probably won't even notice it.
  • It is also completely waterproof. Not just "splashproof" or "water-resistant", but full-on IP67 waterproof, for the wettest rainy-day walks, plus swimming and frolicking in the sea, diving, hydrotherapy and watersports of all kinds.
  • Compatible with almost any sort of collar or harness. PitPat uses a super-strong parachute-grade VELCRO strap to attach tightly to your dog's collar. The soft side of the strap faces your dog's fur, for maximum comfort.
  • PitPat GPS has a long-life rechargeable Li-ion battery permanently sealed inside it. Depending on usage and coverage, battery life tends to range from a few days to a few weeks. It recharges wirelessly on the charging pad included in the box, and it takes up to five hours to fully charge a completely drained battery.
  • Highly accurate GPS location - In normal conditions, the PitPat GPS Tracker shows your dog's location on a map to within a couple of metres, updated live every 10 seconds. In some conditions the accuracy may be a bit less, but it should always get you close enough to your dog to see and hear them (even in woodland areas).
  • It works in 32 countries, including UK, USA, Australia and much of Europe, to name just a few. Check out the full list of countries here.

Tempted to try an AirTag?

Just in case you were wondering, we don't recommend using an Apple AirTag as a tracker for your dog, and here's why... They rely on the Bluetooth network of nearby Apple devices to transmit their location - this can be unreliable, especially if your dog isn't close to other Apple users. Also, they don't provide real-time location updates, so you won't be able to track your dog's movements continuously. Apple themselves even say that it's not designed for this purpose and hasn't been tested with this in mind.

GPS trackers are simply more reliable and accurate.
