Duncannon Fort, perched on a rocky promontory projecting into the channel, overlooks the lovely fishing village of Duncannon in the southwestern corner of County Wexford. The golden sand beach west of Waterford Harbour is a favourite spot for sunbathing and water sports. Every year, the town hosts its major event, the International Sand Sculpting Festival. Duncannon is a great area for a relaxing beach vacation, with a handful of taverns and eateries, as well as a playground right on the sand. You can take a ferry to the beaches and watersports of Dunmore East, browse the shops of traditional crystal in Waterford, listen to the music of the Wexford Festival Opera every October, or simply explore some of the historic houses, beautiful gardens, and lovely walks in this wonderful part of Ireland.
