Further afield are Chester, Conwy and Betws y Coed in the stunning Snowdonia National Park. Walk or cycle along the canal, climb in Berwyn Mountains, go fishing or whitewater rafting on the River Dee, sail on Bala Lake, ride on the steam trains and enjoy many sporting and cultural events nearby. Visit the National Trust's Chirk Castle or Erddig Hall or explore Wales' highest waterfall Pistyll Rhaeadr. Head West for a day trip to the coast at Barmouth or Harlech Castle.
