Sleeping five guests, and also welcoming two happy hounds, this charming former miner’s cottage, which dates back to the 1700s, has three bedrooms plus a beautiful interior where you can unwind by the fire after exhilarating days out. Open the front door on to this traditional stone cottage and make your way through into the beautiful, beamed lounge, where you can set a roaring wood burner. Unwind in this light-filled space in front of your favourite programme on TV or grab a few minutes with your holiday read. Wander into the beautifully decorated kitchen/diner, with its exposed stonework, to unpack the local Peak District produce you have shopped for and to cook a hearty meal on the Aga. Lay the table in here too then call everyone through to join you. Find a WC and utility space, with washing machine and dishwasher close by. Venture upstairs to discover a king-size bedroom, a twin room and a single room, as well as the family bathroom, with its corner bath. Spill out into the courtyard whenever the weather permits. Treat yourselves to a cup of tea and a slice of cake out here after brisk walks and have dinner outside on balmy evenings. There is secure storage for bicycles. One car can park on the road by the cottage and others should find public spaces on streets in the village. Find lots of good hiking around Great Hucklow. Head to Foolow, just over 1 mile away, or Monk’s Dale, 5 miles away, to take in the views. Drive 9 miles to visit the stately home of Chatsworth House and to wander in its glorious gardens.
