With a village green and a traditional pub that serves homemade food and real ales, Ovington is an ideal place for you to enjoy wildlife and country walks with golf, horse riding, fishing and swimming being just some of the wide range of activities which are available within an eight mile radius. Both the charming and popular market towns of Barnard Castle (6 miles) and Richmond (12 miles) are within easy reach. Barnard Castle stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort, which crosses the river Tees. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as ‘Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. The Pennine and Teesdale Ways, the medieval Raby Castle with deer park and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all nearby, and Durham, Richmond and Ripon are within driving distance.
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
