The charming villages of West Thirston and Felton are located in rural Northumberland, halfway between Morpeth and Alnwick. A post office, coffee shop, pub, and restaurant with a beer garden are all located in the settlement. The seaside resort of Amble, about eight miles to the east, has a range of restaurants and cafés, including the famed Spurelli's Ice-cream parlour. To the west, Cragside, the former house of Lord Armstrong and the first mansion to be powered by hydro-electricity, is the crown jewel of National Trust assets.
