Cullercoats, a populated peninsula on the North East coast, lies midway between Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. When the village was founded in 1539, fishing and a local coal mining pit were the primary sources of income, as well as a port that exported salt and coal. Victorian terraces and preserved fishermen's cottages line Simpson Street in the village, which has some of the most interesting architecture in the area. American artist Winslow Home was a "Cullercoats Colony" member who wrote a popular song about the area called "The Cullercoats Fish Lass" in 1862.
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.
