Since Queen Victoria's reign, Eastbourne has been the go-to spot for British seaside holidays. This beautiful coastal town has grown in popularity over the years due to its proximity to London and pleasant weather year-round. Even if you're not quite ready to jump into the water, you can still enjoy the sea air by taking a stroll along one of the five miles of award-winning shingle beaches. The historic Eastbourne Pier was constructed around the year 1866 and features an amusement arcade, cafes, shops, a nightclub, and access to speed boat rides around the bay. After a day of exploring the town's museums, galleries, and antique shops, relax with some afternoon tea at the Victorian Tea Rooms on the pier and watch the waves crash against the pier's wooden planks. Golfers have their pick of four courses in the area, and tennis fans can enjoy the AEGON International women's and men's tournaments in June, just before Wimbledon. If you're feeling active and adventurous, you can even participate in the Eastbourne Extreme weekend, which features sporting events such as mountain biking, skateboarding, sailing, and windsurfing. Eastbourne's four major theatres host everything from traditional seaside shows and musicals to classical ballets and opera for those who would rather sit back and be entertained. If you happen to be in the area in the month of August, pack a picnic and be ready for Airbourne, a worldwide air show that travels over the water. Treasure Island, perfect for sunny days, and the Drusillas Park Zoo are just two of the many attractions available in Eastbourne if you want to spend a day away from the beach. If you're looking for a holiday destination that has something for the whole family, then Eastbourne is the place to go.

With many quaint, seaside and market towns, historic sites and miles of glorious coastline to explore, Sussex has it all for a great holiday destination.
