The village of Skipsea, located 10 miles south of Bridlington and 6 miles north of Hornsea, is in a typically rural location surrounded by lush agricultural land. It is also just one mile from the beach and near to the North Sea cliffs. The town boasts its own tavern, hair salon, general shop and post office. Cobbles from the seashore are used in the construction of many of the village's homes, both historic and contemporary. The ruins of Skipsea Castle are located just outside the hamlet. The neighbouring coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey have long, sandy beaches and a variety of tourist attractions, while the surrounding countryside is ideal for cycling and walking. Sledmere House, Burton Constable Hall, the Deep Submarium at Hull, and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering are all within 20 miles of Skipsea. The shops, cathedral, and museum of historic York, the seaside resort of Scarborough, and the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway at Pickering are all within an hour's drive, and Whitby is only a short distance away.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
