The South West Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surround the charming market town of Bishop's Castle. The historic town has a weekly market as well as a wide selection of stores, bars, and restaurants. It is well-known for hosting regular festivals and fairs, including Party in the Park and the immensely well-liked Michaelmas Fair, as well as the yearly Real Ale Festival and Tandem Triathlon. The town is conveniently located for travelling by foot through the Welsh Marches, rural Shropshire, and North Herefordshire, as well as nearby Montgomery, Ludlow, and Shrewsbury, three fascinating and well-known towns. Several surrounding attractions, such as Powis Castle, the Severn Valley Railway, and hikes along Offa's Dyke and The Shropshire Way, are also available for your enjoyment.

A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
