Keswick, as the northern Lake District's primary tourist hub, welcomes visitors all year round. The beautiful lake of Derwentwater, at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley, is only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre, and it is surrounded by excellent parks, miniature golf courses, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing, and great mountain biking opportunities. The picturesque Newlands Valley can be found close by between Braithwaite and Buttermere, and Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a trip if you're in the area. There's a wide variety of trails to choose from, from easy strolls through the countryside to strenuous climbs of Skiddaw or the renowned Catbells. Take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater or check out Castlerigg Stone Circle, Jennings Brewery, and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. This is a fantastic Lake District destination year-round thanks to its many family-friendly attractions, beautiful parks, and proximity to the Lake District Wildlife Park.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
