If you're looking for a place with a Mediterranean climate and plenty of palm trees, look no further than Newton Abbot, right in the middle of The English Riviera. The once-bustling marketplace is now home to a wide variety of boutiques, restaurants, and six major supermarket chains. National Hunt racing takes place there from spring through fall, and wintertime features craft fairs at the racecourse. Located in what was once a traditional working malthouse, the tap house and bottle shop in Newton Abbot serves some of the best bottled beers in Devon. Family-friendly seaside vacations can be had in nearby Teignmouth, Shaldon, and Dawlish. Have fun at Teignmouth's beach all day long, where you can also explore the historic Victorian Pier. The stunning beaches around Torquay and the many hidden coves, such as Meadfoot and Oddicombe, and the pretty Ness Cove further afield, will undoubtedly be the highlight of your stay. Other notable attractions include the National Trust houses of Bradley Manor, Coleton Fishacre, and Compton Castle, among many others. Beacon Cove, where Agatha Christie used to swim as a girl, is on the South West Coast Path, which offers beautiful views across the bay. All year long, Newton Abbot is a great place to stay as a jumping off point for a trip to the English seaside.

Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?
