The charming village of Fylingthorpe is located just a short distance from Robin Hood's Bay and its fishing community. This village, which is located inland from the shore after ascending a treacherous curving route, was founded by Scandinavians in the ninth century and is now a lively village with a variety of services. Purchase some fresh bread at the neighbourhood store, Thorpe Stores, or fill up on necessities at Barnard's, a small bakery. After a long day of exploring the North Yorkshire coast, The Fylingdales Inn is a warm spot to unwind with a pint. However, the nearby community of Robin Hood's Bay has a greater variety of pubs and bars, several of which have magnificent sea views. When you are ready to continue exploring, turn onto the Cleveland Way and walk up to the wonderful Whitby town centre, where a variety of delights are waiting for you. While there, visit the eerie Whitby Abbey, which is thought to have inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula, and then descend the 199 Steps to the beach. If you want to learn more about sailing in the past, enjoy exploring Whitby Museum, go on a Whitby Storyteller Guided Walk, or visit The Endeavour Experience. A great place to start exploring North Yorkshire's attractions is Fylingthorpe.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
