Only eight miles from Dorchester, in the charmingly called Piddle Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the charming West Dorset village of Piddletrenthide, which is off the main road on a private track. The community is surrounded by beautiful nature, has easy access to public footpaths that are full of wonderful walks, and has a store where one can buy necessities. It's interesting to note that the youthful Thomas Hardy assisted the architect design the parish church. The world-famous Cerne Abbas giant is only 2 miles from this gorgeous region, making it an excellent starting point for visiting, and Dorchester, a bustling market town with a variety of intriguing shops, restaurants, and museums, is highly recommended. Weymouth, a family-friendly beach town, the Jurassic coast, and majestic Portland, the site of the 2012 Olympic sailing competitions, are all easily accessible. This is an excellent place to holiday all year round because Bournemouth and Poole are only 40 minutes away.
